Here are the answers to what people actually ask us. ## The Basics ### What exactly does a pharmacy technician do? Think of pharmacy techs as the pharmacist's right hand. You'll handle tasks like: - Counting and packaging medications - Managing inventory - Processing prescriptions - Billing insurance - Helping customers All of this happens under a licensed pharmacist's supervision. You're part of the healthcare team, but you're not flying solo. A pharmacist must be present and overseeing your work at all times. It's a legal thing, and it keeps patients safe. ### Do I need to be registered to work as a pharmacy tech in Alabama? Absolutely. You **cannot** work in the prescription department of any Alabama pharmacy without being registered with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy. Period. No exceptions. Yep. You need **6 hours of continuing education** every two-year renewal period. Here's the catch - **2 of those hours must be "live" presentations**, not just online courses. Mark your calendar, because these aren't optional. Alabama does renewals every two years in **odd-numbered years** (2025, 2027, etc.). Renewal opens **October 1st**, and your registration expires **December 31st** of that year.
